Erch Moechel has an M.A. in American, English and German literature and a degree in pedagogics [1987 University of Vienna]. Languages: English and Modern Greek, remnants of French, a little UNIX, less TCP/IP. I have been into journalism for 30 years menwhile. beginning as a culture and media critic first to Vienna weekly Falter and Radio OE1, in 1989 I joined the daily newspaper Der Standard as a media columnist until 1996. By that time my focus had already turned to technology related news and publishing on the net. Accordingly my next job at daily biz newspaper Wirtschaftsblatt was in new media management: Establishing e-mail and WWW communication and kicking out fax machines. From 1999 onwards I have been working as an IT news editor and investigative news reporter to ORF.at, current home base is fm4.ORF.at. Co-founder of quintessenz [organization for the restoration of civil liberties in the digital age 1996] and the Big Brother Awards [1999]. Member of the international board of advisers to Privacy International the Austrian journalists‘ Club and the Austrian Amateur Radio Association OEVSV, callsign OE3EMB.
